Strategic Supply Group, Let's Get to Work

About

Michael C. Bardier, CIPM, COBAF-P

Founder and Principal, Strategic Supply Group. Twenty five years buying raw materials, components, and finished goods for manufacturers and distributors, now doing that work for companies that need the capability without the headcount.

Background

I have sat in the chair I am asking you to hand me

My career has been spent inside purchasing departments, not next to them. Raw materials, MRO, metals, wire rope, hardware, electronic components, apparel, and multi site supplier management. Supplier bases in the hundreds. SKU counts in the tens of thousands. Spend in the eight figures.

I have negotiated directly with factories in China, India, Slovakia, and the Netherlands, and managed supplier relationships across 21 countries in North America, Europe, and Asia. I have built the RFQ, run the scorecard, made the recommendation, placed the order, chased the order, and answered for it when it was late.

That is the difference I am selling. Advice is easy to give and hard to act on. Execution is the part most small and mid size companies actually need, and it is the part I do.

Why fractional

The math most owners are stuck on

A procurement hire is a permanent decision

Salary, payroll taxes, benefits, recruiting cost, ramp up time, and the risk that the person you hire is not the person you interviewed. For a company buying a few million dollars a year, that is a heavy commitment to make on a hunch.

Fractional is a variable one

You get senior capability for the piece of the week that actually needs it, at a fixed monthly cost you can stop with 30 or 60 days notice. If the volume grows into a full time role, you will know it, and you will have a clean, documented function to hand the new hire.

How I work

Plain terms

  • Fixed fees, agreed in writing, before work starts
  • Remote by default, on site when a supplier visit or an audit calls for it
  • Weekly written status, not silence between invoices
  • Everything I build stays with you, including the SOPs and the templates
  • If a category is not worth working on, I will tell you before you pay me to work on it
